Union Hall Joins the SCFD Family

On October 7, 2025, Union Hall was honored to receive funding from the Scientific and Cultural Facilities District (SCFD) as a Tier III recipient organization. This moment marks a major milestone for our organization, now in its sixth year of operation, and a powerful affirmation of the value of the work we do: supporting emerging artists, curators, and creative partnerships in downtown Denver.

This grant isn't just a financial investment. It’s a symbol of trust and collective belief from the people of Colorado, whose ongoing support of SCFD makes funding like this possible. We are thrilled and deeply grateful to be part of a statewide network of cultural institutions whose work is powered by the people, for the people, and benefits communities by providing outlets for the most personal cultural interests.

What the SCFD Means for Union Hall

The SCFD award supports what Union Hall does best: uplifting artists and curators who are ready to take risks, lead conversations, and build community through the arts. With this funding, we can continue to create boundary-pushing exhibitions, offer free public programs, and deepen partnerships that connect people across Denver and beyond. It’s an investment not just in what we do, but in why we want to make contemporary art more accessible, welcoming, and resonant.

What is SCFD and How Does it Work?

The Scientific and Cultural Facilities District (SCFD) is a unique model of public support for the arts, culture, and science. Founded in 1987 by Colorado voters, SCFD was born from the idea that everyone deserves access to enriching cultural experiences, and that we are stronger when we invest in them together.

Here’s how it works: For every $10 spent in the seven-county Denver metro area, one penny is collected and distributed to eligible cultural organizations through SCFD. That tax fuels museums, theaters, symphonies, dance companies, nature centers, and community art spaces like ours.

Over the years, voters have reaffirmed this commitment by renewing SCFD funding through public ballot initiatives. Today, the district funds over 300 organizations across the region, ranging from world-renowned institutions to neighborhood-based nonprofits.

Tier III organizations like Union Hall represent the grassroots heart of the SCFD ecosystem. These are the small and mid-sized groups working closely with communities to spark imagination, deepen understanding, and create belonging through culture.

Looking Ahead

This award arrives at a meaningful time for Union Hall, as we continue to grow our impact, expand our reach, and support the next generation of cultural leaders. We're honored to be recognized among so many incredible organizations doing transformative work throughout Colorado.

We are deeply thankful to the SCFD board and staff, to the Coloradan voters who make this district possible, and to our own community of supporters who believe in our mission. This milestone is both a celebration and a spark to remember what’s possible when art, access, and public support come together.

We can’t wait to share what’s next. Be a part of what makes Union Hall special - join us for an upcoming exhibition or event!
