As part of the AfterWord Residency parter activation with Denver Public Library and inspired Melissa Broder’s book Death Valley, an art installation by Courtney Ozaki-Durgin will be open to the public at Union Hall from Thursday 6.11 - Saturday 6.13 during select hours.

Free and open to the public, this explorable walkthrough experience lasts approximately 20 minutes and includes one live performer.

This event begins with a talkback with Melissa Broder, author of Death Valley, at 6pm on Thursday, June 11 at Union Station.

About the Installation

AfterWord is a series that explores what happens when a story moves beyond the page. At each gathering, an author meets an artist from another creative discipline to reimagine literature through sound, movement, image, and conversation.

For this edition, author Melissa Broder joins creative producer and interdisciplinary artist Courtney Ozaki-Durgin for an evening where literature and immersive performance meet.

Union Hall is pleased to host the immersive live performance installation and reception portion of this dual event. Created by Courtney Ozaki-Durgin, check in at an inconspicuous Best Western motel in Death Valley and travel through the magically real memories of Broder's quirky protagonist as she navigates grief and mortality on an unexpected journey through the Mojave Desert. This experiential installation expands the novel's emotional terrain beyond the page — and the reception is woven right into the experience.
